What do you get when you cross a Yellow Wolf with a sexy woman? Why you have the Alameda Brewing long table and the burlesque group, The VanDolls. If you read my blog on occasion, you’ll know that we don’t miss many of the long tables at The Pumphouse. For $40, you are treated to a five course meal with beer pairings from Beerthirst. It’s always a great meal, fantastic beers (that you’ve likely not had before) and awesome people. These dinners sell out fast as they usually limit it to thirty tickets and this dinner was no exception. They sold out in the first week and thus, another thirty tickets were released and snatched up. Hmm, do you think the allure of half-naked women after the dinner had anything to do with it? Nah, it was the beer. Actually, since we were just in Portland the previous weekend and tried all twelve on tap at the Alameda Brew House, I can say with certainty that the beers were amazing (boobie comments will have to come from the guys).

The dinner menu was inspired by chef Daniela Iaci’s recent trip to Columbia. You ready?

Last Friday, Richmond’s Pumphouse Pub invited me to join them for one of their “Long Table Dinners”. The concept behind the Long Table Dinner is brilliant. Basically, the whole point is to have customers come out & try new, exciting craft beers from breweries around North America. This is a great way to get customers to become more open minded & explore past their ”go-to” drink . This month’s long table dinner was hosted by award-winning Green Flash Brewery, located all the way in San Diego, CA. I had the opportunity of trying 5 different Green Flash Craft Beers, each of which was cleverly paired to a dish the chef at the Pumphouse Pub had created.

It’s not often you get at least a four-course meal, complete with 10 ounce beer pairings. But just take a quick hop, skip and jump to the Hop & Vine Taphouse at 1601 Burnwood Dr. for its Long Table Series, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The series runs once a month – March’s event takes place this Saturday, March 31 at 7 p.m. – and you’ll see the work of Chef Renaldo Decembrini in full bloom.Decembrini, a fixture at the Hop & Vine for the past four years, has almost two decades of hospitality experience, and his flair in the kitchen is on full display during the Long Table dinners.

There is nothing more beautiful than a tap takeover of excellent craft beer from an award winning brewery. Actually, there is – to pair those taps with 5 courses of delicious food! For those of us lucky enough to attend, that’s exactly what we enjoyed last Friday at the Pumphouse Pub in Richmond: a special tap takeover by Anderson Valley Brewing Company from Boonville, CA and another memorable Long Table hosted by Beerthirst. And to top it off, Trey White, the president of Anderson Valley Brewing was also in attendance and brought along with him many excellent beers that you can only get at their brewery!

Last Saturday was a night to remember with the Pumphouse Pub’s latest offering: their first ever Wine Maker’s Dinner. For those familiar with the Pumphouse’s Long Table Series, it was a similar format with 5 courses paired with 5 wines. Usually the long table dinners focus on one or two breweries but on this occasion there were 5 different wineries featured from around the world. Why review wines on a beer blog you ask? Why the hell not if it’s at my favorite local pub!

Two Beers Brewing Canadian Launch Party @ Pumphouse Pub

Last Saturday, I was lucky enough to attend the Canadian launch party of Two Beers Brewing from Seattle at the Pumphouse Pub in Richmond.

I’m sitting here drinking a Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA and felt compelled to blog about our third long table at the Pumphouse Pub on January 20, 2012. It was a great pairing with Bad Beer Lite… kidding, of course, it was the big Bear itself. It was our first introduction to the Bear Republic line, and they have two new fans.

This brewery from Healdsburg, CA has a great line up of ales and touts on their label that they’re independent since 1995, and I suspect proud of it. KEEP READING HERE

The city of Vancouver has become quite the “happening” place in the last few years. There are so many pubs and restaurants that serve a great selection of craft beer, and it seems like every week there’s a special event going on. However, some of the neighbouring cities in The Lower Mainland have nothing good going on at all. One place we should all be shaking our fingers at for the lack of craft beer would have to be Burnaby.

When it comes to craft beer, there’s nothing quite as disappointing as Burnaby. Everywhere you go it’s all chain stores serving Molson and Budweiser and so on. So where is there to go? Well, luckily for all the beer nerds in the Burnaby area, there’s the Hop and Vine.

Think of a neighbourhood pub in BC and it’s usually not that difficult to predict what you’re going to find – a wide selection of industrial lager, lots of fried food, a pool table, and televisions.
